Prime Robots In Disguise
Deluxe Soundwave
$12 USD/$16 CDN
Available: Now
An excellent representation of Prime Soundwave. The robot mode is spindly
but fairly accurate to the show. I love the drone mode and I'm
impressed they were able to keep the toy so accurate to the
show. Comes with a little Laserbeak drone (which is okay but
mostly a G1 shout-out then really all that useful on its own.
It does have a tab to attach to Soundwave's hand, which is
always useful). Otherwise, Soundwave has no additional weapons
to speak of.
The toy was a bit hard for to change between forms--the
head in particular was tight and took some work to get out and
folded up for the robot form.
Verdict:Excellent. A must buy
for fans of the show.

Prime Robots In Disguise Deluxe Wheeljack
$12 USD/$16 CDN

A cool new form for Wheeljack and also quite
accurate to the TV show character. I love his twin swords and
his car mode is totally awesome. He was a bit difficult for me
to change between forms--in particular, I had trouble getting
his leg panels to look right and his arms as well. The robot
mode is sturdy and nice to look at it.
Verdict:Excellent. Another
must buy!

Prime First Edition Deluxe Cliffjumper
$16 CDN
Available: Now (unclear
if this toy was actually released in the U.S. market)
An excellent toy of Prime Cliffjumper (a promising
character that lasted about five minutes in the actual cartoon
before getting killed. Sigh...) Frankly, I don't
understand the whole "First Edition" thing. They made some
excellent and detailed toys of the main Prime cast--then sold
them only to Japan and Canada (with a few showing up at U.S.
retail as well). They effectively replaced these guys with
newer version called "Robots in Disguise" versions that look
simpler and transform easier. Did Hasbro feel these toys
wouldn't sell as well? Or perhaps they were too expensive to
produce? At any rate, FE Cliffjumper is beautifully
detailed (compared to his RID counterpart--see below). His
transformation was difficult to me but I managed it and am
impressed by the little things--like how his hands can flip
around, "converting" into guns. Pretty stable in both modes.
Verdict:Excellent. Hard to
change between forms, hard to find but worth it for those who
do.
Top is FE version and bottom
is RID version.
Left side is FE and right is RID version.

Prime Robots In Disguise Deluxe
Cliffjumper

Easy to find and easy to transform, RID Cliffjumper is most
likely the version you'll see at retail. He's a good solid toy of
the character but, to be honest, I prefer the FE toy. I do
like his additional hammer weapon and his car mode is cool. He would
be a fine toy if the FE didn't exist and wasn't just a teeny tiny
bit better.
