Reveal The Shield (Generations) Perceptor

$12 US/$16 Cdn

Perceptor is a classic G1 character with a few homages in his time but this is the first toy to actually be a totally new edition of the original beloved G1 toy. Although this toy is nice to look at in robot mode that's all it really has going for it. It's hard to stand up, the arm assembly is complicated and they don't lock down into place, which leaves them loose. The toy also has no weapon either which sucks (although it can use Blurr's sniper rifle if you want to go the IDW route). Most people complained about or at least questioned why the toy transforms into a half-track SUV of all things instead of a microscope or anything else, for that matter. Side by side, I much prefer the original Perceptor once.

Verdict:  Mediocre.

Reveal The Shield (Generations) Wreckgar

$12 US/$16 Cdn

Sometimes, Hasbro really gets it right. Wreck Gar has a nice robot mode and nice vehicle mode, ones that even surpass the original G1 toy. I really love the face sculpt as well as his fold out axe (I still don't get why the aforementioned Perceptor has no gun but his wave-mates do). I do recall the right leg being a bit tricky that way it changes but Wreckgar is fairly easy to change between forms otherwise.

Verdict:  Excellent. A must-buy if you don't own it already!

Reveal The Shield (Generations) Optimus Prime

$12 US/$16 Cdn

This toy is underwhelming. It's a decent toy on its own but when compared with the original G2 Laser Optimus Prime toy it's modeled after, it falls far short. The robot mode is boxy, the head mold isn't as cool looking as the G2 toy and the light pipe eyes that it was designed with don't really work as planned. The toy is easy to transform between forms, which is about it's only real positive. Compared with the G2 Prime toy this is a big disappointment and even compared to the more recent Classics Optimus Prime this toy sucks. I think a lot of the problem lies with the decision to make this toy a Deluxe class when it really needed to be a Voyager class (or better).

Verdict:  Sub-par/terrible.

RTS Legends Prowl and Trailcutter (aka Trailbreaker)

$5 US/$7 Cdn (each)

I don't really have a lot to say about these guys. It's awesome to see a new version of Trailbreaker (even if it is only a Legends sized toy). Prowl I'm a little bit indifferent toward since he's had so many other toys in the past decade or so (although I guess it's nice he can accompany his other Legends counterparts). Prowl is a slight remold of Legends Jazz, btw.

Verdict:  Excellent (especially Trailbreaker).

Reveal The Shield (Generations) Turbo Tracks

$12 US/$16 Cdn

Tracks is a nice looking toy when in either car or robot mode. The new mold really evokes the classic G1 character. My one real complaint with this toy is one I have with Perceptor--the robot mode is overly complicated to form and doesn't completely lock down tight. That is, it's possible to pose him but he's not as sturdy as he could be. The back canopy piece is always a bit loose since that's apparently how he's designed. I would've preferred something a bit more stable then what we got.

Verdict:  Good. Not perfect but good.

Reveal The Shield (Generations) Special Ops Jazz

$12 US/$16 Cdn

Jazz is another guy who's had multiple toys over the years. I like this newest toy overall. He does suffer from the same problem Straxus and WFC Soundwave have and that's feet that don't lock into place. Like with Tracks, he can be posed but the feet make him easier to fall over and/or harder to stand up then something more stable--this latest batch of Generations/RTS toys have this style of foot design and I don't understand why somebody thought this was a good idea. Otherwise, he looks pretty nice and represents the character quite well. Kudos to somebody for giving him a gun reminiscent of the original G1 toy.

Verdict:  Good. But has some minor stability issues.
