I love the look of this mold. It's easily the best toy of Rhinox to-date (I never cared much for the original mold. It just didn't do the animation model justice). I do have a complaint about the toy though--my copy is somewhat floppy and he's one of the harder toys to get to stand-up properly (not sure if this is a common problem or specific to mine). The transformation was a bit better tricky for me (had trouble getting the legs to fold up right). Also, the panels need to be massaged to get them all to line up correctly. Rhinox's guns are also improved over the original toy's. Generally, this is an excellent toy of the character and worth getting.

Verdict:  Good. Not perfect, but worth picking up all the same.

I never had an original Whirl toy (although I did have the small Convertors mold of him). This toy is fairly good for what it is and I'm certain it's an improvement on the original G1 toy (the original looks a lot more spindly compared with this). I had trouble getting him to stand at first--the feet need to be set just so in order for it to work. The weapons are decent and the transformation wasn't too bad (I had to figure out how to get the rear part to fold up with his head but once that was done he was easy enough). For some reason he comes with a sticker sheet (I prefer them factory applied--it always ends up looking way better). Also, while trying to connect one of his weapons to his chopper form I accidentally broke part of its clip (be careful if you need to do that, I guess).

Verdict:  Good. Worth picking up if you love the character (although skip-able if you don't).

Voyager comparison of two toys

Just taking the toy out of the box it was clear to see this is a much better looking toy then its predecessor. It's bigger, sturdier and more impressive looking in general. It's also easier to transform and has a kick ass sword! Also, the first Voyager toy was a bit on the floppy side for me (one of his wings were always loose). This newer mold seems to have addressed most of the original version's flaws. Even the colors and translucent wings are an improvement.

Verdict:  Excellent. This is the Predaking toy to get!

Two Optimus are better then one!

The first thing I noticed about this version of Optimus Prime is that he's more bulky then the original Prime versions, as if implying graphically that he's bulked up on power/abilities (I'm not sure I really have an opinion on that one way or the other). I do like the overall aesthetic of this incarnation. He looks good and he's fairly well designed overall. I like his big green sword as well--it looks really cool. Upon attempting to transform him I was initially overwhelmed and had no idea what the heck I was doing. After some tentative movements though, realization dawned, and I was able to convert him swiftly and easily (in other words, he's not as hard to change as he looks. :)  One minor quibble--he has a face in this version and I traditionally prefer my Optimii to have a face mask (so the Prime version wins out slightly in that sense).

Verdict:  Good. Worth picking up if you like Optimus Prime and want a decently priced version of the character.
